My Ideal Day
One of my favorite self-development exercises involves dreaming up your idea of the perfect day. What time would you sleep in to? Who would you see? What would fill the hours from the moment you got out of bed to the time your head hit the pillow? I wrote out a pretty detailed version of what my ideal day would look like back at the beginning of December, and while writing in my journal on holiday later that month, I realized that I had practically lived it from start to finish one fabulous day. Here's what it looked like:
9am: Woke up to the sound of waves crashing and the wind rustling the palms just outside our bungalow. Smiled to myself and kissed the gorgeous man sleeping next to me.
9:15am: Ate a delicious breakfast on the beach, complete with a super fresh banana shake.
10am: Wrote in my journal and reflected on my thoughts and feelings from the first few days of our trip while Casey splashed around in the sea.
10:30am: It didn't take long until I was right in there with him, cooling down as the day started to heat up. [If we weren't on vacation, my ideal day would actually include doing a bit more writing/blogging/photo editing/creating throughout the morning hours for a bit of productivity and release, but can't say I mind those times when there's no work to be done at all!]
11am: Beach yoga and walks near the water to get our bodies moving.
12 noon: Rocked with the waves on our beach floaties in the middle of the sea to relax and gear ourselves up for the day's activity.
12:30-4pm: FLYBOARDING, followed by a few celebratory beers on the beachfront. [This is the time slot where I'd really just love to do any sort of activity I've never done before or collaborate with others on something creative. This one definitely topped the charts!]
4:15pm: Light lunch back at the bungalow.
4:45pm: Siesta/sexy time [Sorry for the overshare, but can't leave this one off for my idea of the perfect day!]
6pm: Showered and got ready to meet up with a dear friend from back in the day.
7pm-6am: TOTAL MAYHEM. Not really, but it was my idea of a crazy, amazing night. Started with a delicious dinner with friends both old and new. Attended a Thai club opening and danced our asses off and learned more about the cool California couple I was introduced to. Saw the world's longest fireworks display.
Spent some much needed time with a best friend and caught up on all the time we'd missed ~ of course, it all clicked back as if no time had passed at all. Discovered my favorite bar in the whole world and philosophized life to the sounds of on-point reggae dance beats.
Met a beautiful South African woman and her total chiller of a Thai boyfriend, who just so happened to be the owner of the bar. We shared beers and j's, stories and ideas, our lives and our cultures with open hearts. Danced on the beach and stared up at the stars, thanking the universe for bringing me to this incredible place and that beautiful moment. Finally dragged ourselves home where I crawled into bed and kissed that same beautiful boy from the morning.
What would your ideal day include?
